Instrumental/Vocal Applications
Prizes:
- First Prize Concerto: $500 and a Performance with the Bermuda Philharmonic on the March 16/17th Spring Concert
- Second Prize Concerto: $300 and a mention in the Spring Concert program book
- Third Prize Concerto: $200 and a mention in the Spring Concert program book
- First Prize Composition: $500 and a performance of the winning piece in the Spring “Art of Music” event at Masterworks Museum, Bermuda.
- Second Prize Composition: $300 and a mention in the Spring Concert program book
- Third Prize Composition: $200 and a mention in the Spring Concert program book
Rules and Regulations:
Concerto Competition:
- Contestants must play 1 movement of a standard concerto
- Competition is open to all instruments, including voice and percussion
- Orchestral parts and score must be available for purchase or download (no rental only parts will be considered)
- Piece must be performed by memory
- Contestant must perform with accompaniment (list of local accompanists)
- Previous Winners who have performed with the Bermuda Philharmonic as soloist may not enter on the same instrument for 3 years.
- Applications must be received no later than Friday, December 29th, 2023
- Contestants must be under the age of 19 at the time of the competition.
Composition Competition:
- Contestants must write for a solo or any chamber music combination of the following instruments (Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn, or Piano)
- The piece must be 4-7 minutes in length
- Individual Parts must be made available by April 1, 2024 (for first prize winner only)
- Score may be submitted electronically or handwritten, and must be accompanied by a 1-page essay about the piece.
- Previous winners who have had their works performed by the Bermuda Philharmonic players may not enter again as a composer for 3 years.
- Applications must be received no later than Friday, December 29th, 2023
- Contestants must be under the age of 19 at the time of the competition.
